The 7th edition of
the Yoghurt Fair and the Festival of folk traditions and crafts
brought to its end

For 7th time, from 24 to 26 July
2008, Razgrad hosted the unique Yoghurt Fair, held within the Festival
of folk traditions and crafts. This initiative of Razgrad Municipality
gathered in the town thousands fans of the folk arts and the original
genius of the Bulgarians. Along with the traditional events – exposition
of craftsmen, bazaar of dairy products, degustations of the fantastic
elixir from the Ludogorie region, culinary show contests with yoghurt
and dairy products, the newest event for this-year edition of the Fair
was the forum-presentation about the qualities of yoghurt in nutritive
and cosmetic aspect.
For second consecutive year a
Yoghurt Queen was elected. She stood at the head of the parades of the
participants in the concert programme.
One of the elements of the
festival – the bazaar of craftworks has approved as a place, where the
best craftsmen has the chance to meet each other. Fretwork, painting on
glass, textile and ceramics, modelling, souvenirs of the ethnographic
group “kapantsi”, knitting work, copper-smithing, wrought iron,
jewellery, metal plastic, furriery, homespun tailoring, woollen
braiding, manufacturing of puppets in folk costumes, icon-painting,
manufacturing of tools, cooperage, manufacturing of sandals, cutlery,
saddler’s craftworks, bells and carts were just a part of the crafts,
which presented more than 80 craftsmen from Troyan, Tryavna, Shumen,
Veliko Tarnovo, Ruse, Dobrich, Sliven, Targovishte, Lovech, Plovdiv,
Etropole, Shipka, Oreshaka, Nova Zagora, Stara Zagora, Pleven, Veliki
Preslav, Sofia, Kazanlak, Shipkovo, Borima, Gabrovo, Razgrad, Dryanovets,
as well as from Romania and the city of Orel, Russia.
The number of the young people,
interested at the training “First steps in the craft” was
record-breaking. More than 130 children were introduced to the secrets
of the crafts.
More than 60 children participated
in the painting-contest “Yoghurt Fair”, including children from Romania
and Russia.
Once again the most exciting event
of the programme was the contest for home-made yoghurt, which attracted
more than 50 masters of this longevity gift. The visitors of the Fair
have the chance to taste the marvellous delicacy of “kapantsi”, made in
earthenware dish.
Of course, the focus of the
Festival was on the colourful parades and parti-coloured rhythms from
all over the world, presented by the attractive groups from Ecuador,
Thailand, Chile, Greece, India, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Costa Rika,
Ukraine, Germany and Bulgaria.

Official guests of the Fair were
the Belgian Ambassador – His Excellency Mr. Philippe Beke and
delegations from the twin cities of Orel – Russia, Wittenberge –
Germany, Armagh – Northern Ireland and Calarasi – Romania, as well as
group from Chalons-en-Champagne/France.
Three days
in Razgrad – a lightning fiesta,
unforgettable with its charm and magnetism!

In relation to the organization of
the Autumn Fair, which will be held from 9th September to 15th
September 2008, Municipality of Razgrad starts launching
applications, as follows:
1. For installation of temporary
food establishments
Deadline for submission of
applications – not later than 15:30 on 22nd August.2008.
2. For attractions, such as:
carousels, shooting grounds and other entertainment fittings
Deadline for submission of
applications – not later than 15:30 on 22nd August.2008.
The applications under par.1 and 2
should be submitted at the Documentary Department of the Municipality or
on-line on address:
http://online.razgrad-bg.org.
3. For participation in the
bazaars for sale of sugar products, ice-cream, popcorn,
different-than-food products, etc.
Deadline for submission of
applications – not later than 16:00 on 05th September 2008.
The candidates can inform
themselves with the terms and conditions for participation in room 116 –
“Commercial control” Sector.
The application forms have to be
submitted at the Front-office of the Municipality, after presenting a
document, verifying lack of local fees and taxes liabilities, according
to the provisions of Art.32 of Ordinance ¹4, adopted by the Municipal
Council – Razgrad, about the terms and provisions for exercising of
commercial activities on the territory of Razgrad Municipality.
The accepting of applications and
the specification of the stand locations according to the approved plans
starts from 04th August 2008 at 9:00 in the morning.

Four official
delegations for the Yoghurt Fair
Four official delegations for the twin cities visited Razgrad during the
Yoghurt Fair and the Festival of folk traditions and crafts.
The delegation from Wittenberge, Germany, was led by the Mayor – Dr.
Oliver Hermann. The other members of the delegation were the Chairman of
the Municipal Council – Wolfgang Strutz, Marita Fritsch – Head of
“International programmes” Department and the musician Marian Hoffmann.
The Mayor of Wittenberge made a donation to the people of Razgrad on
total amount of 250 euro. With the money four benches were purchased.
They were installed next to the monument of Ivan Vedar. During the
meeting with the Mayor of Razgrad, Mr. Dencho Boyadzhiev, became clear
that by the end of the year a workshop on expert level will be held
between the three twin cities – Razgrad, Wittenberge and
Chalons-en-Champagne. Different issues, concerning the further
cooperation between Razgrad and Wittenberge in the field of education,
culture and tourism, were discussed as well.
The Mayor of Calarasi – Nicolae Dragu – led the delegation from Romania,
consisting of the deputy-prefect Lilian Ostropel, experts and veterans.
The two Mayors joined hands for a joint “mirror” project between the two
municipalities for establishment of children’s camps. Ideas for applying
with environment projects were discussed as well. The Mayor of Calarasi
invited Mr. Boyadzhiev to visit the town during the regular Autumn
Exposition in September and informed that there will be provided stands
on the exposition for companies from Razgrad.

The delegation from Armagh,
Northern Ireland, was represented by three councillors, accompanying by
their wives, the consultant Desmond Mitchell (who has been among the
persons, founded the contacts between Razgrad and Armagh) and the Head
of the Mayor’s office. Mr. Dencho Boyadzhiev affixed his signature on
Agreement for partnership and cooperation between the two
municipalities, valid for a period of five years. The document was given
to the guests and it is to be signed by the Mayor of Armagh. The
delegation visited the Establishment for medical and social cares in
Razgrad and declared that Armagh donates 3 000 euro for substitution of
the joinery in several premises.
In the delegation from the city of Orel, Russia, were the Head of the
organizational department in the administration of Orel – Alexander
Chizhmin, the chief specialist in “Culture” Department – Elena Orlova
and the chief specialist in the organizational department – Irina
Kovalyova. During the meeting with them the Mayor Dencho Boyadzhiev
emphasized that 40th anniversary from the twinning with Orel is
celebrated this year and on this occasion a photo exhibition was made,
which will be presented as well in Orel during the holiday of the city –
5th August. Along with the official delegation, guests of the Yoghurt
Fair were children from the Arts schools in Orel, who joined the
concerts and the craftsmen’s workshops.
